(Sun)Flowers in the house or Girasoles en la Casa

I have a vivid memory of racing down a winding mountain road in Spain while going from Seville to Granada. Suddenly we came around a bend and my breath caught in my throat; on each side of the road were endless fields of sunflowers. Every inch on either side, as far as the eye could see was a sea of bright yellow. It was a sight to behold and impossible to capture with any true justice, my photos are a yellow blur. I stuck my nose to the glass like a child and stared hard, my brain went click, click, click. There, mine, forever.

So this weekend when I walked into Whole Paycheck Foods to gather the ingredients for a dinner party I stopped cold. Buckets and buckets of sunflowers; and since it's party day at Jane's I thought I'd bring a little bit of Spain.

      Oh and "queen" of spanglish doesn't mean my sentences make any sense but it means i insist on trying.

    Girasoles,Have you got the same weather there that in Andalucia? because here there are lots of them at this time, Normaly we do not use them to decorate because the fields you saw are close and the owners only use them to make oil or they get the seeds

    What lovely sunflowers! I grew them in the garden once, but am still pulling out the volunteers - years later. Am afraid to let them flower again, lest they invade! you chose a much better way to have them. so pretty. thanks for sharing.

    What a beautiful memory. You have me thinking of the sunflowers in Everything is Illuminated. Seeing fields full of them, in person, must be so incredible.

    Ah ha, you have a nice tall vase for yours! Love your description of the scene in Spain--that must have been glorious!

      They're tough to display but I can't resist them, I was pleasantly surprised how nicely they fit into that one.
